The Doctor and Douglas
The Doctor and Douglas is the title of a BBC Radio4 programme looking at Douglas Adams relationship with Doctor Who. From being a fan whilst at school, where he wrote a parody called Doctor Which, through to being script editor on season seventeen.
It is being made by Simon Barnard of independent radio production company Wise Buddah. Simon previously worked at the BBC where for Radio 1 he made, amongst other things, the "Space Oddity" documentary about The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that was broadcast on Lamacq Live back in April 2005.
Simon is currently arranging interviews for the programme which is expected to be broadcast sometime in March/April on BBC Radio 4. More news when we have it.

BBC radio programme to look at Shada cancellation
A half hour Radio 4 programme called Shelved is being broadcast at 10:30am on Saturday 12 December. The one line description in the schedule says, "How the politics of the late 1970s affected the most popular TV series' of the time."
The more detailed description at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00p7g8b says, "Shaun Ley recounts how the political circumstances of the late 1970s resulted in three of the most popular TV series' of the time - Dr Who, Secret Army and The Professionals - each having at least one episode scrapped after filming. Interviewees include the then Dr Who, Tom Baker."
Further digging reveals that the portion of the programme devoted to Dr Who will be about the Douglas Adams scripted story, Shada, which had its studio filming affected by industrial action after the location filming had been completed in Cambridge.

SavetheRhino are auctioning many items on eBay and there are a couple of great interest to Douglas Adams / Hitchhiker fans.
Douglas Adams' Bath
Kindly donated by Jane Belson and Polly Adams
Many people ask writers where they get their ideas from. Douglas Adams always maintained that when he ran out of ideas he took a long bath. This is that bath. Here's your opportunity to lie where genius lay, to soak up some of the inspiration that created the galaxy's favourite science-fiction comedy series, in a beautiful wrought-iron bath! Recently removed during a bathroom refit, Douglas’s widow Jane Belson kindly donated this bath to be part of Hitchcon’09 at London’s Royal Festival Hall, in celebration of 30 years of the great man’s most famous creation: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and the publication of And Another Thing – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Part Six of Three by Eoin Colfer. Think like a genius - take a bath!
Vogon Commander Kwaltz in bronze
Kindly donated by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop
This Vogon model was created specially for the film adaptation of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Sculpted by Jamie Courtier for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, it is a scale representation of Vogon Commander Kwaltz. When the directors and producers of the film were trying to visualise Vogon Commander Kwaltz, different models were made and the best representation was made into a full size Vogon. The original model was then used to cast five bronze statues of which this is one. The base has been inscribed with the immortal words "Resistance is useless", upon the request of the films director, Garth Jennings. Standing 18cm tall and weighing over 6kg, this piece is a must-have collector's item for fans of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

This post worths a bucket of dingo’s kidneys and so does the so-called Part six. It has not much to do with the HHGG ethos, just adopted the props. I have been a fan for 25 years and Colfer’s deed is an ultimate proof of HHGG having been taken over by Vogons. Don’t get me wrong, I put my trust in it…
